WIRA Through the Ages

From Company Foundation to Digitalisation

Since its founding nearly 50 years ago, the WIRA team has mastered numerous challenges – from globalization to digitalization, including technical innovations, new materials, and complex design tasks that have proven our engineering expertise.

The Birth of WIRA: Founded by Max Kurt Meier

With foresight, innovative spirit, and customer orientation, Max Kurt Meier founds WIRA Fahrzeug- und Maschinenteile GmbH together with Mr. Johnson and Mr. Stefer. The success story of a family business begins, and to this day, this guiding principle remains an integral part of our corporate philosophy.

Completion and Occupation of Plant 1 in Wipperfürth

Thanks to increasing demand, the company grows rapidly. Plant 1 is completed and occupied in 1981. We significantly expand our production capacities for various products through new production lines.

Launch of WIRA push-in connectors in series production

Our push-in fittings for plastic tubes with tool-free assembly revolutionise the industry. We start series production in 1992 — a milestone.

Certification: DIN EN ISO 9001 Quality Management

Our consistent quality management receives its first DIN EN ISO 9001 certification in 1996. This marks the beginning of a success story with regular re-certifications.

Certification: DIN EN ISO 14001 Environmental Management

Environmental protection and sustainability are firmly anchored in our corporate values and part of our mission statement. Our environmental management system was certified according to DIN EN ISO 14001 as early as 2001 — confirmation of our early and consistent commitment.

Plant 2: Doubling of Production Capacity

With the commissioning of Plant 2 in 2006, we create space for new employees and machines. New production lines and more efficient processes result in significant capacity expansion.

Certification: Quality Management according to ISO/TS 16949:2009

Since 2016, we have been successfully meeting the particularly stringent requirements of ISO/TS 16949:2009 (now IATF 16949) for the automotive supply chain.

Management: Stefan Lange appointed as Managing Director

Unfortunately, we had to mourn the loss of shareholder Max Kurt Meier this year. To secure our successful development in the long term, Stefan Lange is appointed as the new managing director in 2018. Experience meets innovative power.

Shareholders: Shares Transition to Next Generation

In 2019, the Meier family transfers the shareholder stakes to daughter Michaela Lange and her family, including Stefan and Timo Lange. WIRA remains a family-managed business.
